Did you try booting up from the OpenSolaris Milax live CD? Download it from this link below:
http://www.milax.org/ and burn the ISO file to a CD and tell us how it works. Milax is basically the OpenSolaris version of D amn Small Linux. It uses an XFCE desktop which is much faster than GNOME and uses much less RAM memory. I have an Acer Aspire 5040 laptop with only 500 megabytes of RAM and Milax runs just fine on it. The only thing I haven't been able to get working yet is to port over the MadWifi drivers to Milax so that my wireless network connection works. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
