Hi wybird, which OpenSolaris version are you using? Are you using SXCE or are you using Indiana OpenSolaris 2008.05 or 2008.11 and what build are you using (build 86?).
If you need to play mp3s and watch videos, you can get all the software that you need to do that from this web site: http://www.lifewithsolaris.jp/ Just install VLC media player and you should be able to play almost any kind of video with that. I think you can use BMPx media player (the successor to beep media player) to play mp3s. Be careful with Music Brainz Picard. I don't think that package is stable so I wouldn't recommend installing it but everything else from there seemed to work fine for me. If you're running OpenSolaris 2008.05, you can install the packages from the lifewithsolaris.jp IPS repository using these instructions: http://lifewithsolaris.jp/modules/xoopsfaq/index.php?cat_id=1#q2 and the list of available software for 2008.05 and how to install it is here: http://lifewithsolaris.jp/modules/packages/index.php?content_id=3 Also, before you install these packages from Life With Solaris, make sure you read these release notes: http://opensolaris.org/os/project/indiana/resources/relnotes/200805/x86/ If you're running build 86 (which is the build that a lot of us run because it's pretty stable) make sure you run these commands: $ pfexec pkg refresh $ pfexec pkg install SUNWipkg at 0.5.11-0.86 $ pfexec pkg install entire at 0.5.11-0.86 $ pfexec pkg install SUNWipkg-gui At the command line to make sure that the package manager is patched up to date and doesn't have any bugs in it. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
