[osol-help] 2008 11 very slow??

Don't worry about 'eating' all the RAM available.
It's because of zfs.

I have also come across some machines where OpenSolaris runs rather slow.
At the same time I have some machines where OpenSolaris is faster than anything 
else. I guess it's really hardware dependent.
