Hi Was it perhaps so that the Net worked before you installed the Sound drivers but not after you had sound working ?
Check that the audio chip and the Ethernet Card uses different IRQ and or
DMA channels.
# dmesg -a ( check for "intin" )
if possible put the ethernet card in a PCI slot where you can set the IRQ
manually
using the PC BIOS.
