O.K. So as you tried another cable and another disk
it looks like you have Isolated the problem to the MotherBoard ?
Just a few more things :
Do you know which IDE chipset the motherboard has ?
You do have the CDROM/DVD and the Hard disk(s) on separate IDE
connections ?
If not, I would try once more with just the hard drive on its own IDE
cable.
A Motherboard usually have two ore more IDE connectors .
Can you move the hard disk to another IDE connector ( second channel )
