The 512 MB RAM requirement was for OpenSolaris 2009.06. There is a known problem with the b134 iso that is available on http://www.genunix.org/distributions/indiana/osol-dev-134-x86.iso ; It does not install on systems with 1024 MB of RAM; it runs out of memory and hangs in the final part of the installation.
