I guess I have to take your word for it. I was able to install the console framebuffer support for the Mach64 used in the U5. I guess I just assumed that the native Xorg support for the Mach64 would then be enough. By any chance, can I just set it up with a headless xdm config (i.e., xdmcp to remote clients, but no local X server)? What all do I need to install just to get gnome working (again assuming either a remote X session or, perhaps, vnc)? Thanks...
