That might work as well, though installing those packages would overwrite the
/usr/openwin -> /usr/X11 symlink with a new /usr/openwin directory and thus
break the compatibility linking for all your old shell scripts/.xinitrc/etc.
that run /usr/openwin/bin/xmodmap or /usr/openwin/bin/xset or whatever.

*sigh* Sorry - one of these days I'll fix the text in my brain so I stop telling

It's gdm 2.30 - I think it has XDMCP support in, but haven't tried in a long
time.   Try desktop-discuss if you have problems with it.
