My original comment about license problems refererred to Cygnus gcc
library and OpenSSL. Unlike other ports of gcc the library is covered by
GPL *not* the library license as is usually the case.
This means that anything linked with the Cygnus Win32 library must be
placed under GPL. If you check out the OpenSSL license (and the original
SSLeay license) it says quite explicitly:
"The licence and distribution terms for any publically available version
or derivative of this code cannot be changed. i.e. this code cannot
simply be copied and put under another distribution licence
[including the GNU Public Licence.]"
This can't be changed even if we wanted to.
If the Cygnus library has changed and this is no longer the case then
this isn't a problem any more.
The comment does not apply to autoconf et al. If that could be made to
work on all platforms currently supported using, for example, VC++ under
Win32 and Win 3.1 then fair enough.
