You're confusing the 3 parts required for Apache-SSL.
Apache (Web Server): Version 1.3.14
Apache-SSL (SSL Glue): Version 1.42
OpenSSL (SSL Implementation): Version 0.9.6
On the www.apache-ssl.org page they say that to use Apache-SSL 1.3.14/1.42,
you will need OpenSSL 0.9.5a or later.
