apache-ssl - version # disagreement

Ben Laurie in hie website at www.apache-ssl.org shows the current release to be 
apache_1.3.14+ssl_1.42 yes the openssl website shows the latest release of openssl to 
be 0.9.6

Why don't the version numbers agree and what releases should actually be used?
