This was actually what I did when I was still maintaining Pine. SUSE has
an explicit approval from the University of Washington to distribute pine.

Same here, at least for all my work-related email. For my lower volume
personal mail, I use Thunderbird.

I've tried many times to come up with a suitable muttrc that would allow
me to switch without too much pain. So far, I have not succeeded.
