On one install of openSUSE 10.2 beta 2 or 3, on one of my machines the 
ide-scsi automatically loaded. I had no control over it. When I wiped and 
reloaded that machine with openSUSE 10.2 GM it was back to 'normal' ide. 

I doubt the OP deliberately chose ide-scsi. Have not thought through all the 
steps on how to fix it. Will the data be safe on the devices and partitions 
if we somehow get the right device driver loaded and /etc/fstab altered?
