It is useful to have a base configuration on media but the addons and more specialist bits one should be able to retrieve on an as needed basis. Besides many of the non-base applications are in a continual state of development and personal I would prefer to get the latest copy as a single download to installimg from media and then upgrading. Personally I think the simpler things are kept the better, complexity leads to obscurity, unreliability, and a lot of work those who have to pull all the bits an pieces together.
