You are not sorting properly.

If you click on the left most column header, it does indeed sort all the
packages that can be updated to be together. I do this all the time. It
also will place all the colored entries so they are together with their
respective colors (e.g., red together).  Inside the part with all the
updatable packages all together, all the updatable packages will be
sorted by name.
