On CentOS I didn’t have that problem with the others, but you can try it.

Also make sure they run correctly when you run them manually from the command
line (but that didn’t help with Arachni).

I’ll try that. Does that apply to others…dirb, nikto, wapiti?

Hi,

I found on CentOS6 that Arachni won’t run from OpenVAS unless it’s symlinked in
/bin, even if it’s in the path in /usr/bin or whatever.

Sorry to continue to ask about this, but…
Running OpenVAS v6 on Ubuntu server 14.04
I have manually installed arachnid, nikto, dirb and wapiti
I have made sure that the executables are in the path via the method mentioned
below (/etc/bash.bashrc) and via /etc/environment.
I can execute each from the command line.
I still get these when scanning:
I have searched and cannot find a fix for my issue…

Issue
-----
NVT: arachni (NASL wrapper)
OID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.25623.1.0.110001
Threat: Log (CVSS: 0.0)
Port: general/tcp

Description:
Arachni could not be found in your system path.
OpenVAS was unable to execute Arachni and to perform the scan you
requested.
Please make sure that Arachni is installed and that arachni is
available in the PATH variable defined for your environment.

Issue
-----
NVT: DIRB (NASL wrapper)
OID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.25623.1.0.103079
Threat: Log (CVSS: 0.0)
Port: general/tcp

Description:
DIRB could not be found in your system path.
OpenVAS was unable to execute DIRB and to perform the scan you
requested.
Please make sure that DIRB is installed and is
available in the PATH variable defined for your environment.

Help appreciated.

Some distros don't use /etc/environment or /etc/profile for sudo or root. To
get around this, you can add to /etc/bash.bashrc:

export PATH="${PATH}:/usr/local/rvm/bin"
export PATH="${PATH}:/usr/local/share/nikto"
export PATH="${PATH}:/usr/share/wapiti"

I’m running OV 6 on Ubuntu.
In my reports I have this sort of info:

Arachni could not be found in your system path.
Please make sure that Arachni is installed and that arachni is
available in the PATH variable defined for your environment.
I get this for a couple of others…Nikto and DirB
I have manually installed all 3 of these and added them into the PATH
(/etc/environment)
And can run them from the cli.
I still get these messages. Is there some trick to this?
Please be kind in your response…I’m old and slow…
