A note about IRC usage -- there is some debate about IRC usage within
the ASF. Some people/projects are opposed to IRC usage. Others do use
IRC and like it. Personally, I like IRC. However, you should be aware
of it's limitations. Non-overlapping work schedules, social pressures,
etc can inhibit effective IRC interactions.
Don't use IRC at the expense of dev list communication. If you have an
important discussion on IRC, you should summarize the discussion on
the dev list. Note that some information is going to be lost when you
create that summary. IRC logs/bots, etc can help, but they aren't fail-
safe and aren't really "official" public ASF communications.
