No idea, sorry.

AFAIK, the wireless situation on the brcm47xx platform (used in many
routers) is that with 2.4 it works just fine, and with 2.6 it somewhat
works. This has been the case for a while and is unlikely to change in
the forseeable future. The "somewhat works" is obviously unclear.
Many people (including myself) have it working just fine as a wifi
client accessing a WPA network. Supposedly some people also have it
working as an AP. Don't know about AP mode with WPA. Also there might
be some snags: e.g. apparently bridging between the wireless and the
wired ports doesn't work, at least when the wifi is in client mode.

I'm pretty happy with my WL700gE (same kind of hardware as some of the
WL500g? routers, except with an extra IDE interface). Not exactly new,
tho. And I had to live with the lack of bridging, so the computers
connected to the wired ports end up being on a separate network, which
can be annoying. This said, maybe using "old-style" bridging like
parprouted would help.
AFAIK, the best choice is a WL-500gPv1 where you replace the wifi card
(mini-pci) with an Atheros one.
