Hi, sure it does. I guess you still have to select the exact target platform.
for example, to compile openwrt for my xscale arm-based wrv54g router, i had to first do "make menuconfig" and select ixp4xx as target, after that i had to do "make kernel_menuconfig" to select the target board (Gemtek WX5715).
