Hi Erich,

I have tried to build nightly tarballs via the new build system that you
checked in today (5/23).
It seems to work fine but I realized that the new build system requires root privilege since it creates several directories and then generates
some files in them.

well... no. The directories are created in two places:
- one level above the trunk checkout, so this could still be the user's
 directory
 - inside the trunk checkout (subdirectory repo)

No specal rights except proper ownership of the parent directory (relative to
the trunk checkout) are needed. I'd expect the trunk checkout to live
somewhere in the user's home directory tree...
OK, I get it. Thanks.

It is not a problem for me to run the nightly tarball script because I
can run the script with "sudo" and then scp the tarballs to the oscar
web site.
But is it possible for a normal user to build tarballs?

BTW, I found that we don't have a tarball ready for all the distros that
we support any more.
Is that right?
I will try this on my FC3-X86 next morning.
http://oscar.openclustergroup.org/public/nightly/trunk/oscar-repo- fc-3-i386-5.0a1r4831.tar.gz

Please read the README file in the top level directory. It contains the same message as in my email announcing the change. And it basically says: you need
3 tarballs to run a system. In your case these are:
  oscar-base (< 5MB)
  oscar-repo-common-rpms (~60MB)
  oscar-repo-fc-3-i386 (~40MB)

So instead of downloading 5-600MB you just pick 100MB. Additional distro
support requires another 40MB download, not more.
Yes, after I sent my previous mail, I tried to install the tarballs and I realized that the above 3 tarballs are needed. I successfully installed it on FC3-X86 and it worked just fine except for tweaking prereq.cfg of yume package. And also, I found that there is an error at step 0.
Here is the error message
------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- Building repositories with binary packages from the OSCAR tree /opt/ oscar-5.0a1r4832 Could not find directory /opt/oscar-5.0a1r4832/packages/sis/distro/ common-rpms
Are you sure the distro common-rpms is supported???
Error occured while executing: /opt/oscar-5.0a1r4832/scripts/ build_oscar_repo -d common-rpms -t /tftpboot/oscar at ./ prep_oscar_repos line 57 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ --

I think some codes on step0 have not been updated for new build system.

By the way: can you check whether you can put the unpacked repositories (oscar-repo tarballs) online at IU? Installing would then only require the
download of the 5MB.
Yes, I can try but we'd better wait for a while because the OSL machines are in the middle of a plan migrating NFS server.

Regards,

Thanks,
best regards,
Erich
