Meaning that shared memory is used for message passing within a single
node and TCP/IP is used for message passing off-node.

For OSCAR 1.2, you may need to tweak the files in /etc/profile.d to point
to the right paths.  In OSCAR 1.4, there's a new package called "switcher"
which allows you to have multiple versions of MPI (LAM and/or MPICH)
available and switch between them.  If you load OSCAR 1.4, see the man
page for "switcher".
