Removing the nodes from c3.conf is only a hack, the nodes are still in the 
database and therefore you can be sure that you will issues.

About sync_files, i have to admit that i discovered the very bad state of that 
piece of software only few days ago. I think i think the synchronization of the 
image is now fixed but i am pretty sure i will have to revisit the rest of 
sync_files. :-( And just to make things more difficult, there is no 
documentation about what has been done before.

This is on the todo list for 6.0.5 (too short timeline to fix that for 6.0.4). 
I am very sorry about that, like you i am still discovering "historical 
mistake".

Anyway, i open a ticket on that topic and be sure i will work on that as soon 
as possible.
