Good luck on that. I was at the last ADLNET Plugfest in Feb. in
Gaithersburg, MD and heard it straight from the horses mouths that the SCORM
spec is now considered final (as of the delivery of the SCORM 2004 CAM and
RTE). They have new non-SCORM specifications which are part of ADL's roadmap
which include things like Web Services etc., but strangely the timeline for
delivery was something insane like 2009.

They also indicated they fully expect the SCORM spec to have something like
a 15 - 20 year run as the primary unit of delivery and communication for
distributed learning objects, with new specs being introduced towards the
end of that cycle and gradually ramping up. There was a lot of talk such as,
"SCORM is finally stable...there are a growing number of tools which will
continue to be refined which aid in the development of SCORM...now is the
time to focus on ROI from you distributed learning objects using SCORM."

ADL is currently looking to transfer its stewardship of SCORM to a
non-profit third-party who can develop more detailed documentation, case
studies and community development.

SCORM being the brainchild of ADL created at the behest of the DOD and being
primarily implemented in Defense / US government environments means that you
are dealing with a whole different animal--rapid change, or any change at
all for that matter, will not happen.

Just thought I'd provide some insight into where SCORM isn't going...

Regards,

Brooks Andrus

Yeah, I'd like it if SCORM allowed direct communication with the LMS
Server without any JavaScript being needed (using AMF or a Web Service
or XML Socket), but then that wouldn't be SCORM compliant.

Come to think of it, I'd like SCORM to not require a browser. There! I said
it!

So how do we get the SCORM standard changed?
