Regina,

To be honest, from the way you describe how you've been working, I'm not sure
if ActionStep is appropriate.

It is very code-centric. If you aren't comfortable working almost completely in
a non-visual environment, then it won't be a good choice for your project.
We're working on an interface builder, which is looking great, but it will be
months before it's usable in any real form.

But I should also mention that ActionStep drawing is done using a class called
ASGraphics. It provides a plethora of drawing primitives (circles, a few
different rectangles, elliptical and circular arcs, circles, ellipses,
hexagons...and more). This would make it quite a bit easier to get your classes
drawn through the drawing API, because you don't have to worry about the
internals.

Regina,

ActionStep can do skins with MovieClips. It also has every component you're
looking for.

:-( That's too bad - as I said: our designers think of skins
that are really not really ideal for the drawing API. I tried
it once, but I get undesired effects with the curveTo-command
(that is, the Flash Player shows lines that shouldn't exist, or
rather lines that are way longer than they should be).

Would it be possible to extend the UI classes that they can
attach a movieclip as "background" for a component? Instead of
drawing it?

Cheers,

        Regina
