Come on dude. Seriously. No one programs java or actionscript, or C#, etc
in emacs. Emacs comes on every linux box, but its not used for these
languages.


Well not emacs but I use vim for all my programming (AS, C, C++, python,
java, makefiles etc etc etc).
vim is akin to emacs - non gui code editor that is extendable and
customizable for use in programming in many languages.
If GUI floats your boat, eclipse particularly (and other similar editors)
are great tools to be able to program many languages in the same editor. If
non-GUI is your thing, emacs or vim are fantastic.
