I really don't think the meaning is in doubt though : ). A lot of people
have created readers over the years, myself included, but most either have
went to great pains not to ever look at the spec (that may not even be
protection), or live with the idea that they can be shut down at a moments
notice.

It's ironic that there is an active open source swf community, a growing
number of great open source and commercial tools, all around a spec that we
aren't even allowed to parse. I think Adobe should join the party and at
least make it legal to read a swf file into a program. I know it seems like
a pretty big step, but it would really be a very positive move I think. As
it is, its a dark cloud over everyone's head, and for something that isn't
even enforced anyway...
