Ha! Great news! I agree. Moreover, it could be nice for some plugins to tell "oh, no! You've asked for double precision but I can't because of the format limiation, so I'll convert values".
Just a question: will this only concern vertices? Or normals and texcoords too? I personnally only need double precison vertices, but having double precision for texcoords can make sense for a huge composite image (of the earth for instance).
