Hello Robert, Yeah, I was very surprised as well. The Quadro cards that I tried were the FX3500 and FX5500. Both giving very similar results. It's been some time since I went through this, but I believe that the drivers were various versions of 97.x and 98.x. And in all cases (both Quadro and GeForce), the OS was Windows XP. The other hardware specs (for both the Quadro and GeForce machines) as I recall were dual Intel Xeon processors (don't recall the speed), and 2GB RAM. I do have to correct my original email though as it was a GeForce 7900GTX card, not a 8800GTX, that I was able to get such good performance.
I was so surprised that I tried numerous driver versions, driver settings, even added additional RAM. None of these permutations seemed to have had any significant positive impact on performance. But, just to add, I also found that even the 3DLabs Wildcat VP 990 card outperformed the Quadro FX5500. And there are generation gaps between those cards, not to mention cost differences. Not to knock nVidia as I much prefer their cards, but based on my experience, there's no way that I can justify buying a Quadro FX5500 card ($3000 price tag at the time) or current equivalent over a GeForce 7900GTX (around $500). Especially when the GeForce card blows the Quadro away with my applications. Of course, now I'd go with a GeForce GTX 280. :-) chuck > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:osg-users- > [EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Robert Osfield > Sent: Friday, October 03, 2008 8:44 AM > To: OpenSceneGraph Users > Subject: Re: [osg-users] nVidia graphics cards - GeForce or Quadro > > Hi Chuck, > > Curious results, I wouldn't have expected such a disparity, and I'd > guess this is down to driver issues as the GPU's are essentially the > same across Quadro and Geforce lines.
