Would it be possible to double check these apps against OSG-2.8.0 and OSG-svn/trunk just to see if there is anything different there.
As expected (you and I both) these are visible in svn trunk. I don't have a build of 2.8.0 with examples handy to test, but I expect it will behave the same.
In terms of resolving these issues, perhaps contributors to osgShadow can step forward and have a play. My own focus over the next 6 weeks will have to be OSG-2.10 and VPB-1.0 so I won't be able to chase every problem that might arise in the OSG-2.8.2-rc series.
I expect these shadow techniques are not used enough for anyone to have the motivation to fix them. I was just mentioning because I remembered they behaved differently (not necessarily better in shadow volume's case) in the past, but I'm not sure how far in the past that was.
