You build yourself a heightmap for a series of height queries. I think you are rather laking in understanding of OpenFlight and height fields as well the OSG. Rather than trying to teach you your job perhaps you might want to try and explain why you think your need an "elevation raster", what are you trying to do here? It may well be that you are heading in totally the wrong direction, but I have no way of knowing other than what you have written in rather confused manner so far.
