Ok, just really reading the code in the reader writer - should have done so
earlier. There is just a usual fstream opened as usual. So, giving this one
this kind of uri's just does not work ...
I have just rechecked the mailing list archive and it seems that a patch
has dropped through the cracks for this same issue back in 2009:

So, yes, do send your modified file (not patch) to osg-submissions, so
