Hello, I am a co-moderator on the vr-geeks mailing list that we are running on Google Groups. It works quite well, on the other hand, it requires Google login from people who want to use the Groups interface. Also it does not really have the same features as forums, so you will get people complaining about that. Moderation works OK, you can assign multiple owners and have people approve new posts. On the other hand, the more sophisticated anti-spam solutions used by the forums are not available, so it is a trade-off.
