Not sure if you've seen it but there's a simple example in the osgocean example, which just adjusts the floating objects height and orientation, based on the water surface intersection point and intersected geometry normal.
It only works for small objects around the same size or smaller than the waves. For larger objects like large boats it wont be at all realistic, so you'd need to do something like whats described in that paper, or at the very least dampen the attitude.
