That is my constructive feedback in a nutshell.

If you don't like your choice #4 as a solution (long or short term),

choice #4 is a via long term solution, but not a short term one.

The downside of choice #4, while technically ok, forces OSG users into
having an ever greater number of packages to deal with.  It would
stand like:

  OpenThreads
  OpenSceneGraph
  DWMake
  Producer
  osgProducer

And potentially

  CMake or similiar build system.

Now it was unweildy enough just having the triple set.  The above set
would be a tangled nightmare to manage for me as a project lead, as
for end users forced to jump through all the different hoops.
