As Diane said, we have opened together walking side by side moving back and forth between English and French with similar information and different expressions. That seemed to work.
I've also opened in Inuktutuk, that is the translator opened with me, walking the circle. The person who had been asked to do that job did not show up in this Inuit community. A person who was seen to be irresponsible did happen to be there and took on the role, including assisting the recording of the reports where were mostly in that language. It worked beautifully.
