Try enabling the quick action button: Configure screen/Quick action.  
Add an action (the + sign at the top of the screen)
At the bottom of the resulting menu, "Change--Display position always in 
center".  

I haven't tried this, but the menu indicates this should toggle your 
preference between centering and not.
