I think her explanation that she was just reaching for an example of
a primary that was determined late on is plausible. Sure, its crass
and a dumb thing to say, and a professional poltician should be no
better, but even to professional politicians, Hanlons Razor applies -
when incompetence is a perfectly reasonable explanation, why assume a
clever but malicious one?

Politicians apologise for things they didn't mean, or say
they didn't mean, all the time.
