A friend of mine put it this way - the first serious test of 
a candidate for president is choice of running mate. Obama at least 
chose someone who is, at least, qualified to be president if not the 
first choice of a majority. McCain chose someone who would might 
arguably be a good choice for the campaign, but who probably even he 
doesn't really think is a good choce for the country or who has the 
necessary experience.

        So, as a choice, it runs well to the narrative McCain wants 
to project - 'maverick', credible with conservatices, and something 
other than a boring out of touch crazy old man. But unfortunately, it 
also plays well to the narrative people who hate McCain are hearing - 
will do anything to get elected, including selling out the national 
interest to suck up to conservatives.

        And the current media narrative seems to be that of *course* 
Biden can wipe the floor with her in a debate, but of course he won't 
be able to because it will seem rude to pick on her because she is a 
younger woman. Errr.. yeah. If the best they can come up with is that 
it will seem like bullying to demonstrate how outclassed she is....
