This particular idea is deeply embedded in the American psyche,
thanks largely to our perceptions of our historical treatment at the
hands of the 18th Century English. And has little to do with fascism.
Look to Virginia's flag and seal for examples of this ideology, Lady
Liberty is standing upon King George's body over the motto, "Sic
semper tyrannis". I grew up hearing all sorts of statements wrt arms
and government, one of my favorites is "a well-armed citizenry keeps
the government honest". And I'd have to say that Chuck's and many
others' sentiments re: firearms is tied to that idea rather than an
actual perception that the US government is dictatorial and/or fascist.
