You missed the point. If, as is the stated reason, the idea is that
AW *ONLY* belong on the battle field then
the "inherently contradictory" part is that my own government thinks
it's OK if they have them but 'not on a battle field'.

The IRS spent 1.5 million dollars last year upgrading their weapons.
For what? "Better customer service"?

My. "Ok, but them first", just points out that contradiction.
Something like 170 MILLION people died in the 20th century at the
hands of their own governments.

If you want to disarm something, start there and make a real
difference in the world.

I suggest Somalia as a good kick off point. Disarm the warlords and
you will save thousands of lives per year.

I have no plans for rebellion. Armed or otherwise. (Obviously, armed
would be the choice though. Ask the Jews how unarmed worked out for
them..)

Rifles are like this.

"Lady to Texas Ranger: "Officer I see you are carrying a pistol.
Are you expecting trouble?"
Ranger: "No Mamm. If I was, I'd have brought a rifle."

Odds are that my various rifles will continue to represent what they
always have. An exercise in mental discipline (sort of Golf that
goes BANG!) where I try to poke a hole in a piece of paper, 300 meters
away, in exactly the same spot each time.

This is nutters. Your opinions don't have to be objective. Hell,
they don't even have to make sense, they just need to be argumentative
or amusing..

I do understand and it may very well work for you. (actually, I
truly hope it does as I wish everyone to be safe.)

As long as you live in a benign area of the world, in a safe
neighborhood where the police are seconds away, the odds are pretty
good that you will never even wish things were otherwise.

OTOH, if it does go pear shaped above a certain point, your options
are limited to depending on someone else to save you. That's the
same for me too, just at a different point (I hope)
