I don't . I think that is Kevin you are thinking about as he is the one convinced that he is living in a fascist regime. I think I live in an mostly dysfunctional representative republic that stumbles from crisis to crisis without much of a plan. Kind of a "never ascribe to malice what mere stupidity would explain" writ large. >> >> >> I mean, if that was the case, I'd keep a gun. >> Good on you Chuck - when >> did you become a Democrat? > With the exception of president and one state representative, I actually did vote Democrat. If you asked me how often I think about the government running amok in a big way I'd have to say almost never. As long as my officials leave office when they lose, I'm good. On the local level, toss in a deeply held feeling that I will likely be solely responsible for the safety of my own family and that covers most of it. The area where my wife is working at the moment has a rare kind of serial rapist on the loose. (he actually stalks them for a day which I guess is rare) and has had two armed house invasions in the last week. (money for drugs seems to be the reason) She doesn't get to choose where she is assigned so "don't go to that area" isn't an option. One of the house invasions left an old lady pistol whipped and in a coma.. A bit more than a month ago I thought someone was breaking into my truck so I called the police. (see. even then I do what you would expect..) This is my IN TOWN house approximately 5 minutes from the police station. Response time? 10 minutes on the report of an active crime. The average response time is 8 minutes so that's not bad. OTOH, Most armed conflicts last less than 30 seconds. If it had been an armed invasion, the response time would have been 9 minutes 30 seconds too late to STOP the crime. OTOH, they would have had all night to write the report as is typical. 10 minutes is as eternity if you are depending on someone else to save you. Longer if you are depending on them to save a loved one. Given any chance at all, I'll always let the police deal with a threat. None of the rape victims nor the old lady were given a chance to call the police and wait, so I hope you all will understand if I keep my own council on the matter. =c= _______________________________________________ OSX-Nutters mailing list | [email protected] http://lists.tit-wank.com/mailman/listinfo/osx-nutters List hosted at http://cat5.org/
