Indeed. At best, you placate your friends with meaningless platitudes and at worse you embolden your enemies. The people of the west are willing to accept that Obama is going to try and change the direction of the country. The jihadists of world are looking for any sign of weakness or wavering to give them an angle to attack or a propaganda victory. IMHO, The wisest course of action is to say nothing at all and simply change US policy where he believes it needs changing. Far better to leave the enemy guessing than to open your mouth and remove any doubt about your willingness to pursue a particular course of action.
