I am not sure if you are trying to educate the CNAs around the fact that
restraints and splints are two separate things. But in either case
you might want to focus on the objectives of splinting, without which over
time permanent deformities are almost inevitable. You could then
talk about deformity and loss of function. As an example you could
focus on deformity in hemiplegia, and how splinting helps there preventing
deformity and promoting functions like grasp, reach etc. Check out
the title "Orthotics in Rehabilitation" by McKee and Morgan published by
F.A. Davis. It will give you lots and lots of ideas and issues to
focus on in splinting. I would at the same time make sure I do not
get too technical. As long as you stay relatively general in the
way you talk about the content, I think you are more likely to have their
attention.
Good luck,

Sorry to rush you,
but does anyone have anything I can use in a one hour inservice for CNAs
(for list members outside US, Certified Nursing Assistants, the main hands
on caregivers in our nursing home) at a nursing home regarding restraints
and splinting on 6/26. Thanks. -- Jody
