In addition to all the comments made so far, it also sounds like a haphazard way of making a decision that has a major long-term financial impact on an employee. I certainly would not like to find out that the person who hired me based her decision on discussions with other clinicians on a listserve rather than with human resources and salary surveys to determine the fair market price for my services. That's why salary surveys are conducted and human resources have hiring policies and salary specifications. Good luck,
