Hi Arley- I enjoyed your comments. I do wish to respond to one of your statements. You said "We bring something to the table that no one else delivers, comprehensive functional assessment and treatment in the context of that person's life." While, that is true in most cases, I work at an adult DD facility where the Comprehensive Functional Assessment (CFA) is the responsibility of the whole team. And while I think OT is best equipped to do these CFAs, I do not have enough staff to complete these annual assessments on all 330 of our residents. So, OT staff are requested to complete specific portions of the form, such as mealtime/eating. (We are very visible in our dining rooms). But other parts of the assessment are completed by nontrained direct care staff and other professional diciplines. And there are often discrepencies in what we observe and what others assess. There is a LOT of crossover in training and blurring of the professional lines because our folks are so multiply handicapped.
