Cimberly,
Actually I can give you a true scenario where having NBCOT cert. was very
useful. I lost my home after hurricane Katrina and ended up in Texas. Then, I
lost my job. Well, one has to eat and survive, so I had to try and get to work
where I was. the problem - the Board of Medical Examiners (handles OT licenses
in Louisiana) had been flooded. There was no way to prove I had a license in
good standing. To make the story short, the Texas OT board decided to accept
proof of certification as a means to obtaining a Texas license. Whew! Boy,
was I thankful I held on to that.

I think they collect enough to take the board exam. I know for a fact that
amount has gone up since I took it. The problem is I still will pay for it
even if I don't believe in it. My reason is I have some fear if I drop it
and some day it will a requirement to practice OT that NBCOT will make it
hard to "rejoin". Also, I have used OTR for so long I don't want to give it
up. I guess I go with the flow on this matter (which I dislike in me).
Overall, I think it's "political" and has no benefit to me has OT.
