I'm still using these at three different locations, and together
they've recorded 9 seasons.  The only new issue is that one of them is
now dead after this lightning strike.  I haven't investigated if it's
completely fried yet.  It's still only August so it's a bit down on
the list of things to repair.

I lost a snow depth sensor in 2008 as well to a lightning strike.  I
should really disconnect it completely in Spring...

During my 9 years where I live now, we've had four lightning strikes
within 100 meters, so I obviously need to work more on lightning
protection.  Surge protection and isolation by wifi have only helped
to a certain point.  There definitely is a link between damage and the
length of the wire connected to the sensors, so I need to shield my
wires and ground the shielding properly.  I've been thinking that
putting the wires inside copper pipes should help, but copper is
incredibly expensive.  So I'm considering aluminium tape instead.  If
it only offers 50% protection compared to copper, it's a good deal at
5% the cost.
