i am extending my network, adding 3 temperature sensors and I wanted to
test the wiring before I actually connect them to my live system. I
installed owfs on my laptop and used a spare DS9490R USB adapter to
connect to the new sensors. This is what I see at the terminal

mick@mick-deb-laptop:/opt/owfs/bin$ sudo ./owfs -u -m /var/1-wire/mnt/
--nozero --allow_other
DEFAULT: ow_usb_msg.c:(295) Opened USB DS9490 bus master at 2:3.
DEFAULT: ow_usb_cycle.c:(191) Set DS9490 2:3 unique id to 81 8C 7E 30 00
00 00 BA
mick@mick-deb-laptop:/opt/owfs/bin$

That all looks OK, but when I look at the directory in Nautilus I see
everything as expected, but when I double click the 'temperature'
register for example, I get an error

The folder contents could not be displayed.
Sorry, could not display all the contents of "temperature": Not a
directory

But if I move to the sensor directory in a terminal and cat temperature
it works!
mick@mick-deb-laptop:/var/1-wire/mnt/28.C33A7A020000$ cat temperature
        21.25mick@mick-deb-laptop:/var/1-wire/mnt/28.C33A7A020000$

From what I have seen I suspect that my new sensors and wiring are OK
and the problem is with my laptop, but I would be much happier if I knew
exactly what the problem is. Any idea what is wrong here?

Thanks
Mick
