I was thinking that if the chamber was wet inside then probing the wood on the exterior would show damp seeping into the wood. That may not be true though, depending on the material used. Are you sure it is a good idea to have completely sealed chambers on a wooden boat? You would only need a half inch hole with a removable cover to allow a check for water ingress. In addition these could be opened when the boat is out of service to ensure that the chamber is ventilated to reduce the likelihood of rot developing. Though a slightly larger hole might be advisable for ventilation.
