I tried it quite some time ago. I downloaded an iso and installed it in a virtual machine. I decided it was a far inferior interface to windows 7 and have decided to skip it (a la windows ME) and hope "windows 9" will be better.
Android and iOS both have "invisible" features which is not good. The main difference though is the invisible feature on windows 8 is a main feature that is required to use it in any real way. For example, on Android, you have to long press on the home screen to add a widget. This isn't immediately obvious so I would consider this a bad design. However, it's not critical. If you never do this, you can still use android perfectly well. Try using windows 8 without ever touching the corners and see how far you get. The issue with adding a widget has been fixed by including a visible add option either on screen or in a menu. The invisible button in windows 8 should really be visible. They could even do what windows used to do, the first time it starts it has this bouncing arrow pointing to the start button. Not the best solutions but better than nothing. Magic corners only seem ok because you're used to them. It's like double clicking. Put a person in front of a computer that knows nothing about them and they're not going to think double click. But we are so used to it, it seems natural.
